Tostada

Tostada is a Spanish word meaning "toasted". A tortilla fried until crisp and usually topped with a variety of ingredients like refried beans or shredded chicken or meat, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. Tostadas are a dish on their own in Mexico and the American Southwest. Beans, cheese, sour cream, chopped lettuce, sliced onions, and salsa are mainstays that may be spread on a tostada.
